Our Neighborhood

The Spring 2003 special issue of Quiltmaker's All-Time Favorites features a foundation-pieced wall hanging titled Our Neighborhood. Click here to view the same sweet foundation-pieced pattern--in a much smaller size!

You'll find several tips on foundation piecing in our online Tips & Techniques area. You'll also find a Foundation Piecing Primer in the Spring 2003 special issue of Quiltmaker's All-Time Favorites. For help with all phases of the quiltmaking process, see Basic Lessons.

Print the three pattern sections shown below. Check printed pages against given block measurements. If necessary, enlarge or reduce printouts to match given measurements.

You'll need to complete four of section 1, two of section 2 and one of section 3 to create one complete block. Using sections 2 and 3 as placement guides, fuse scraps into place for house doors and windows. Assemble the sections into rows, then into a block, as shown in the Block Piecing diagram.

To recreate our original wall hanging in miniature, make four blocks and join into a four patch. Refer to the finished quilt photo to add borders and binding.
