Tips & Techniques

 Teaching Kids to Quilt

Ensure a Do-able Project

  • Choose a one- or two-patch design, with patches large enough to be handled easily by small hands (no smaller than 4" square).
  • Plan for each child to make one block. Calculate the number of quilt tops that can be made based on the number of students in the class.
  • Pre-cut the patches plus a few extras (just in case).
  • Use 1/2" seam allowances. This allows more leeway when sewing the blocks together.
