QM Patterns: Veteran's Pride

 Let's Iron Things Out

Basic Lessons explains one way to miter border corners but you may prefer this method instead. When adding the border units to the quilt, start and stop stitching 1/4" from the corners.

Lay a corner of the quilt top right side up on an ironing board; you may need to anchor the quilt with pins to keep it from slipping. With 1 border strip flat, fold the adjacent border strip 45° to the first strip and align the red, white and blue strips as shown. Press the folded border strip crisply; this fold will be the sewing line.

Unfold the border strip and then fold the quilt top in half diagonally, right sides together; align the edges of the border strips. Starting from the inside corner, sew the border strips together along the fold. Trim the seam allowances to 1/4" and press open. Repeat with the remaining corners.
