This patriotic quilt pattern appeared in the July/August '03 (No. 92) issue of Quiltmaker magazine. To order this issue go to www.villagequiltshoppe.com.

For more detailed instructions on each step of the quiltmaking process, see our Basic Lessons.

My husband is very active in veterans' organizations so I wanted to make a patriotic quilt to display on the 4th of July and other service-related holidays. The ideas started rolling for Veteran's Pride when I won a packet of red, white and blue fat quarters at my quilt guild meeting. I wanted to create an asymmetrical design that would express loyalty to our country and capture the essence of the flag.
