QM Patterns: Nothing but Color

 Instructions

Illustrations within the pattern include tabs that show which direction seam allowances should be pressed. Border seam allowances are pressed away from the quilt center unless otherwise noted.

Step 1 About This Quilt

This scrap quilt is made of chevrons in purples, blues, greens, reds, oranges, browns, beiges and golds. All the row 1's are identical and with a predominance of blue and orange strips. The row 2's differ from each other in their mix of colors. The yardage box lists 553 strips but the actual number you need may vary, so plan for a few extras.

Handle the rows carefully during assembly; the bias edges may stretch.

Step 2 Piecing the Rows

To begin a row 1, join a scrap strip to A as shown. Press A open. Trim the strip even with A.

Join the next strip to the right side of the row; press open and trim as before.

Trim the row to 6 1/4" wide. (You can center the A patch or deviate slightly for a more casual look.)

Continue adding strips until the row 1 measures at least 83" down a side. Trim the row to 5 3/4" wide.
