QM Patterns: Meadow Morning

 Instructions

Directions are for both the sofa quilt and the queen comforter. Information specific to the queen size is given in [ ].

Step 1 Making the Blocks

Make the block Y's and block Z's. Press the seam allowances as shown. Press the seam allowances open when joining the Y-block halves.

Step 2 Assembling the Top

Join the blocks to make the row 1's and 2's. Press the seam allowances toward the Z blocks. Alternating types, join the rows. Press all of the seam allowances in the same direction.

For the sofa quilt: Sew the border 1 side strips to the quilt. Press the seam allowances toward the strips and trim any excess length. Repeat for the border 1 top and bottom strips. Add border 2 in the same way. Now go to Step 3.

For the queen size: Matching the centers and ends, join the border 1 side strips to the quilt, easing if necessary. Press the seam allowances toward the strips. Repeat for the border 1 top and bottom strips. In the same way, add the border 2 strips.

For border 3, join the blocks to make the side and top and bottom strips. Press the seam allowances as shown. Add these border strips to the quilt as with borders 1 and 2.

Sew the border 4 side strips to the quilt. Press the seam allowances toward these strips and trim any excess length. Repeat for the top and bottom strips.

Step 3 Quilting and Finishing

Referring to the quilting placement diagram, mark the Leaf Spray Quilting in the blocks and border[s].

Layer and baste together the lining, batting and quilt top. Quilt the diagonal lines through the blocks and quilt the blocks and borders in the ditch. Quilt the marked motifs. Quilt 2 lines 1" from the border 2 seam lines.

Join the binding strips and sew them to the quilt to enclose the edges.
