QM Patterns: Turtle Toy

 Instructions

Step 1 Making the Turtle Body

Use patches A, B, C and D from Turtle Stampede!, in the September/October '04 (No. 99) issue of Quiltmaker magazine. Enlarge the patches 200%. Add 1/4" seam allowances to all the sides of B and C. Adjust the seam allowances on A and D to 1/4".

Choose two coordinating fabrics and cut 2 A, 1 B, 1 C and 2 D from each.

For each fabric, with right sides together and matching centers, sew B to D, starting and stopping the stitches 1/4" away from the raw edges of B. Likewise, sew C's to the remaining D's as shown, starting and stopping 1/4" from the edges of C.

Join A's and D's as shown, pressing all seam allowances toward the A's. You will need to clip the center seam allowance to do this.

Right sides together, join the 2 turtles with a 1/4" seam allowance. Stop and backstitich at each end of the "neck" and "tail," being careful not to catch the seam allowances in the stitching. Leave a 2" opening along one side. Trim the corners and clip the curves. Turn the turtle right side out.

Stuff the turtle and stitch the opening closed.
