Interview with Pam Clarke
How did you come up with your "Between the Lines" machine quilting technique?
I love the look of traditional quilting and I have always used some sort of marking or stencils, but my biggest problem was not having the correct size to fill the area with a pre-cut stencil. So, I came up with dividing the block or area into sections and it was easy for me to free-motion my shapes in these areas.
What do you feel the benefits of your technique are to quiltmakers?
No matter what the size of block, your design will always fit. This technique saves time and the quilter will be able to create a style of her own.
If you could offer one piece of advice for quiltmakers today, what would it be?
Not to be too hard on herself. Machine quilting takes practice. Start out slow, take one step at a time and the most important thing is to have fun.
