Quiltmaker Design Contest Guidelines
If you create your own quilt designs or variations of traditional patterns, we invite you to enter our ongoing quilt-design contest.
Submissions
Original designs may be submitted to the magazine through our Design Contest. Successful designs are those that will appeal to a significant group of quiltmakers, are relatively easy to make, and that have patches that fit on one or two magazine pages. A colored drawing of your design on graph paper or a computer printout is all we need. You may also send a jpg, tiff or pdf file via email. If you have made a quilt from your original design, we would like to see a photograph of it.

Judging
Judging dates are February 1, May 1, August 1 and November 1 of each year. Finalists will be selected and notified. Finalists' designs will then be eligible for consideration in future issues.
A design that is not accepted will be returned only if a self-addressed stamped envelope has been included. One envelope may be used for multiple submissions.
Finalists
If your design is chosen, you will be sent a permission form for its use with questions about the origin of the design and any prior publication rights. Because we strive for balance in theme, color and pattern complexity within each issue, coloring or setting arrangements of your design may be changed. If you have also submitted a photo of a finished quilt from this design, we may ask if the quilt can be sent to us for in-house photography. If it is scheduled for publication, we will also request a color photo of yourself and a brief statement about the design and your quiltmaking experience.
Payment
Upon publication of your design, $150 will be sent to you, with design credit given to you in the magazine. If payment has not been received 8 weeks following publication, please notify the editor. If you have furnished a finished quilt of this design which we use in QUILTMAKER to illustrate the pattern, an additional amount is paid.
