2 of 8 | Basic Cutting Fundamentals and Plain Squares
Charlotte Block of the Month | Jenny Kae Parks | Runtime (11 min)
In order to add visual contrast, some of the blocks within the quilt are one-patch blocks, or plain squares. As these squares are much larger than the small patches most pieced blocks call for, Jenny talks about how to cut these squares with the grain line. She also shows how to determine the grain line on a piece of fabric and why you might want to rip your fabric rather than cut it for the first edge. The techniques Jenny shows can also be used for the patches, the sashing, border strips, and more. Plus, Jenny shares tips for using a rotary cutter safely.
