I've been sewing since I was nine years old, and one of the few things I enjoy as much as sewing is writing. These two passions merge in the happiest way through my job at QUILTMAKER. Every workday is filled with quilts and words, from many angles.

My quilting roots go back to Nebraska, where I learned to sew in 4-H and began quilting when my children were small. In 1984 there weren't many quilt shops in existence, and for lack of anything more interesting, muslin and pin-dots seemed to be a part of almost every quilt. Nor was there a large network of quilters like the one there is today. I wanted to meet other quilters, so I started a guild in Norfolk, Nebraska, and taught basic quiltmaking at a community college.

Those first experiences were very positive for me, and they fueled my desire to continue stretching myself creatively, something I have been working at ever since.

I love traditional quilts and am always attracted to antique quilts and reproduction fabrics, but in the past few years have developed an interest in art quilts. These days I tend to embellish everything, and am most satisfied when I create a piece that's original and one-of-a-kind.

Being part of the team that brings QM to life is a lot of fun--the best job I can imagine!
